Moustache All Rounder
We are delighted to say that we now have the 2020 Moustache Xroad 2 in stock with the new Bosch motor. This is the Closed / Crossbar version.
Moustache are a great, innovative company based in the beautiful Vosges region of France. They have gown rapidly in the nine years since they have been established and are undoubtedly one of the best e bike specialists in the world. (We are quite keen on them and we all ride them!)
The Xroad range of bikes is one of our favourites. The bikes are designed for people wanting a versatile bike that they can use on road and off road, with lights, mudguard and a rack. The Xroad 2 is a little cheaper than the Xroad 3 but still comes with the new Bosch Performance Line motor.
It comes with the 400 Wh battery, neatly integrated into the tube. This battery size is more than sufficient for most users.
Bosch Motor and Electric System
The motor is the new Bosch Performance Line motor. This motor is a significant step forward from the previous version and offers the following improvements:
- Weight – now lighter at 3.2 kg
- More powerful – the torque has increased to 65 Newton Metres.
- No resistance – the front chain ring is now a normal size, meaning no gearing in the motor and so no friction.
- Quieter – now one of the quietest motors on the market.
As mentioned above the battery on the Xroad 2 is the 400 watt hour. This will give a range of about 40 miles of average use. Average means that the bike is used in different levels of assistance and on varying terrain. This should be plenty for most users but if you are planning long trips or touring then you might want to consider the next model up – the Xroad 3.
All Purpose Components
The great innovation this year is that this range of bikes can come with a step through frame. We have a lot of requests for this from men and women and now this frame is available on this and various other models in the Moustache range.
The versatility comes from the great combination of the tyres, the light frame, front suspension, integrated mudguards, rack and lights. The tyres are 2.1 inches wide. That’s slightly narrower than standard mountain bike tyres (about 2.35 ins) but nobbly so it will cope well with mud and have a layer of puncture protection.
The bike is comfortable with a nice Selle Royal Wave ergonomic saddle and the suspension forks are enough to take bumps out of the tracks and roads! There is also, for a bit more comfort, a suspension seatpost with 40 mm of travel.
There are good LED lights, front and rear, that run off the battery.
The rack is compatible with child seats and a variety of panniers – but especially with the Ortlieb panniers. The rack has fittings so the Ortlieb panniers can be put on or removed in one simple movement. New for this year the rack is also compatible with MIK fittings. The MIK system enables a number of different bags to click onto the rack in one movement.
What makes the Moustache bikes stand out is the thought that goes into the detail. They start with a clean slate and no pre conceived assumptions. This means that the end product is unique and designed specifically for a purpose with no compromises. The mudguards for example are Moustache’s own innovation, which unlike other mudguards do not move around and are made of aluminium . The slightly swept back handle bars are another Moustache innovation, which is where the name comes from.
We love the Moustache bikes and their versatility, comfort and style. If this is what you are looking for at a very reasonable price then this is a great bike for you.
The Moustache bikes come with a 5 year warranty on the frame and 2 years on the electrics.
