KTM Macina Ride 271 (XS)

Description

KTM Entry Level Hardtail – Perfect for levelling the playing field between partners

Price now reduced by £200!

The Macina Ride is a beautiful little bike. It is certainly one of the stand out bikes in the shop with its bright orange frame to contrast with the black elements. It also houses the battery in the downtube which is blended into the frame elegantly making it a surprisingly good looking bike for a bike at this price. However it isn’t just for looking at, it houses a Bosch Activeline Plus motor and 400 Wh battery, perfect for trails and offroad sections or just keeping up with another rider and other very good components.

Drive System

The Bosch Activline Plus can generate 50 Nm of Torque and add upto an additional 270% of your Wattage back into the bike. If you don’t want as much as that then you have 3 other modes of assistance at your finger tips and you can turn the assist off altogether. We think that the Bosch motor is still the best on the market. It is consistent, powerful and feels natural.

The battery is the 400 Watt hour battery. This will give a range of around 40 miles. This assumes average usage, with different levels of assistance and on varying terrain. However we say this to stay conservative and you can easily get more out of this.

Frame Components

The Ride 271 has a Shimano Altus M2000 and Shimano Hydraulic brakes with 180 mm rotors front and rear. Suspension is provided by the Suntour forks with 100 mm of travel. We really like that even on the low-end of their bikes KTM still uses quality parts to build a good quality bike for your money.

KTM really make the effort to ensure that the bikes are adaptable especially for e-bike users.  For this reason the bike is plumbed with cables so that lights can easily be added that will run from the battery.  In addition the frame is prepared so that mudguards and a rack can easily be added. KTM call this LFC (Lights, Fender, Carrier) ready and although simple it is a great innovation.

Summary

Our affection for KTM bikes only increases with time. This bike is simple but powerful. It is ideal for trails, cross-country, tow-paths, forest paths etc. The bike is great to look at as well as to ride. We think this bike is perfect for letting 1 partner keep up with another on rides around the country so that both can enjoy cycling together. At £1899 this represents excellent value.

Size

The bike is only available in a 15″ frame. This is an extra small size and will suit someone from about 5′ 2″ to say 5′ 5″.
