Gazelle Balance C7 HFP

Description

Unique Balance Bike – Better than a Trike

The name of the bike gives it away! The simple but very clever idea of the bike is to enable the rider to have both feet on the ground when sitting on the saddle but still have a good leg extension for pedalling. It achieves this by setting the seatpost back at an angle.

It also has a very wide step through frame, making it easy to get on and off; a sprung comfortable and wide saddle and easy to use, wide pedals, all in all making this a very easy bike to hop on and off and making it safer than many other bikes and a good alternative to a trike.

Electric Parts

The motor is the Panasonic front hub motor .  The Panasonic motor is smooth and very quiet to the extent that it is virtually inaudible. With the motor in the front hub it is almost invisible and could be mistaken for a dynamo. There is no resistance from the motor when cycling without assistance or free-wheeling making it easy to ride with the motor off if preferred. The torque of the motor is 30 newton meters. These systems are less expensive than the crank drive motors (such as Bosch) but if anything they are more reliable and of course Panasonic is a quality brand. This is not the most powerful motor on the market but with this bike power is probably not the main priority. It will still give you plenty of assistance to make riding up hills much more pleasant and achievable.

The battery is the bronze size (that’s 238 watt hours) sufficient to take you upto about 25 miles. The bike can be purchased with a larger battery if required.

Bike Description

The main idea of this bike is to make the whole riding experience easier. The design of the set back seat post means that you can sit very comfortably, slightly reclined and with both feet flat on the ground.

The pedals are wide platforms so your feet will not slip.

The wheel size which is 24″ also makes the bike easier for some people as you are naturally closer to the ground. It also has nice wide tyres – 47 cm (about 1.85 inches). These make the ride more comfortable and of course better over bumpy terrain.

The bike benefits from many of the other features on the Gazelle bikes such as :has an enclosed chain case making it far easier to maintain and of course less mess. It has hub hears, which last much longer than derailleur gears and you can change gear when stationary. It has good LED front and back lights. It also has a Dutch style wheel lock (or cafe lock) very convenient for those quick stops.

We get a number of requests in the shop for an electric trike. They do exist but we would suggest this is a good alternative thinking about a trike. The reason is that a trike is (in most cases) quite difficult to ride; you cannot lean as you do with a normal bike making corners more difficult. They also take up a lot of room – whether this is in your house or on the road.

Warranty

Gazelle make their bikes to last and therefore it comes with a 10 year warranty on the frame and 2 year warranty on the electric parts.

Summary

The balance bike is a very innovative design and we think it works very well. Having a bike that allows you to be a bit closer to the ground is perfect for some riders and we strongly recommend giving it a try – you can do this in the car park behind our shop.

What Size?

Gazelle have produced the following guide for sizing. This is only a guide and will depend on leg length, body length, rider preference etc. You should also bear in mind that the Dutch are practically born on bikes and like to ride with their feet dangling in the air. Therefore, unless you are a very confident rider tend towards a smaller size,

Size Height in Feet and Ins Height in Metres

49 4’9″ to 5’4″ 1.50 to 1.65
53 5’3″ to 5’7″ 1.60 to 1.75
